There was once a time that I had great intentions to continuously blog and try and build a small yet loyal group of readers. I look on my blog and it has been exactly one year since I have written a new post. So with that said, I must get back on the wagon and write some meaningless rants for everyone to enjoy.

A lot has changed in my life in the past year. The Magic went to the NBA finals, the Yankees won the World Series, Bobby Bowden retired, the Saints pulled off an epic upset of the Colts. I found love and lost it. Made a bunch of new friends. Got a new job that I am enjoying immensely. Two of my very good friends tied the knot…I could go on forever but that is the more important things to me.

This should be a good summer though. I am looking forward to going on a few trips to see friends, concerts (Phish in Camden and possibly Noblesville), the World Cup, and becoming a first time home buyer. There will be many posts of the upcoming adventures as I remember how easy it is to through some words down on virtual paper. Especially when you aren’t getting paid for it. That is the best thing about being the typical male.

Keep an eye out folks and I will ensure you that I will continue to rant on the new technologies that are emerging, awesome bands I hear about, and as always sporting news.

Drama, Why Do People Need It?

Personally, I am indifferent about drama and prefer to keep myself away from it but sometimes you just can’t. Some people just need it in their lives. For example, people will cause drama when you are out for the night, possibly because they enjoy being the center of attention. Other people cause it in relationships, like they are dating someone for a while and then have to leave town for work for a few months and when they do, they tell their significant other that they want to take a break while they are out of town. Other people will lead people on just so that they feel important and that they have a sense of control of the person being lead on. Some people will cause drama at work so that other people will give them credit that they feel they need.

I just don’t get why people do these types of things. Drama will take a toll on friendships and relationships. There are so many more important things in life that people should be focusing on instead of this crap. You should enjoy the company you are with and realize that life is short and to cherish each moment of it. Leave the drama for reality TV, after all, those people are at least getting paid for it.

New Year’s Resolutions Revisited

Just the other day a co-worker of mine tweeted that they were revisiting their New Year’s resolutions. It made me think about the resolutions that I set for myself. I had set two resolutions for myself: 1) Run between 8-10 miles a week; and, 2) blog at least once a week. I was doing well for the first month and then I took a leave of absence for the next two months, being that I was caught up in other things in my life. Right after my birthday in April, I began to get back on these resolutions without thinking that they were resolutions, until I saw that tweet. I thought to myself, I am getting back on track without knowing that they were resolutions but that it just felt right. I guess that I let other people steer me away from doing the things that I set out for myself and have learned that no matter what, I should always listen to myself.

How are you doing on your New Year’s resolution? I have realized that these resolutions are usually good for about a month but the real test is can you do them for six months. Challenge yourself and see if you can keep it up.

The Rebound Relationship

Well, we have all heard of the rebound , but a rebound relationship? I had never thought of it until I realized that it happened to me. A few months ago, beginning of the year, I went on a date with a girl. Turns out that this girl was everything that most guys would want. After our date I walked her over to meet her friends, gave her a hug, and walked away, telling her that I would be in touch. A few days went by and she called me, which is a good sign, and I asked her if she waned to meet up for dinner again, and guess what, we did. Then we met up the following two nights. One thing lead to another and boom, relationship. What I have neglected to mention in this piece is that we had both just gotten out of relationships. This did make me weary of the “rebound” situation but everything felt so right.

Now, with this new relationship, everything was spectacular. We laughed, we talked, we basically had what you would refer to as the perfect relationship. She would bring up things in the future and then would ask if it scared me, but for some reason, it never did because it felt so real. She would also ask that I would never hurt her, which I felt was where she began to give into the feelings. Whenever someone let’s their guard down, the succumb to being vulnerable. I always told her that I would never do so because I knew that I would take care of this girl.

So a few months went by and I knew, well I thought, everything was perfect. Until one night. We went to a Magic game and she asked me before we went out that I made her come home after the game because she had a cold. I told her I would but responded with, you know that after the game we’ll have had a few beers and most likely get into a fight if I tell you not to go out. She understood and we made it clear. After the game, we went out after I told her no, but she wanted to see her friend that she had not seen in a while. I was with her but then left for a little bit to go and see a friend. When I got back, there was this guy, I guy who I had never trusted, speaking to her so closely. I walked up to him, told him to get lost and then, we left and got into a fight, our FIRST fight. Which lead to a break up.

I guess what I am trying to get at is that this girl is very awesome, but she must be with someone at all times. According to a close friend of hers, “she jumps from guy to guy”. She jumped into a relationship with me for a short stint but I was only a rebound. Not just a rebound but a rebound relationship. Not to mention she is now with the guy that caused our break up fight. What is the deal with that? How can someone tell you they feel a certain way about you and have ulterior motives somewhere in their minds. That is what hurts the most.

I do want to be friends with her but it is tough right now. Especially when I see friends of hers talking to people I know, that are friends with “him” and they are talking about me when I walk by. I don’t know if she ever really felt anything for me or if she was just caught up in the moment. It makes me wonder how many times this has happened to other guys she has been with.

I will and have moved on and will not let this affect my life anymore than it already has. I am a bigger person than that and will keep my head high. Love will make you forget time, and time will make you forget love!!! However, I will never forget the time I spent with her and will always remember the great times and things we shared together. She is a great girl and I wish her the best in life.

Turning a New Corner

Well, here it is April 17, 2009 and I will me turning 30 tomorrow. There has been a lot of things going on in my life over the last few weeks that have made me a bit uneasy about this birthday. I was fine with everything and then a few things went wrong. However, I plan on seeing plenty more of these milestones so I have to keep my head up.

I’m confident that everything happens for a reason and timing is of the essence. I will enjoy my day tomorrow and make sure that I keep everything close that is important to me.

Where’s My Compass

Recently I have finished reading a book called Life of Pi. It is a book that I wouldn’t normally read but I had heard so many good thing about it. It has to do with a boy who loses his entire family in a boat accident and gets lost at sea.

There have been a few things in my life that have me feeling a bit lost lately as if I am without a compass and don’t know what direction to go. Mainly, it is because I have no control over the outcomes of these situations. I have been like Pi in the fact that I continue to hope for the best no matter how hard the situation continues to get. He tried and he tried but no matter how much he strived to believe or get Richard Parker to believe it was a gradual process. This is how I need to approach these areas of my life.

I know without a doubt that the fog will clear and my sense of direction will get me back on path. As with Pi, I will continue to see and envision the most the important things in life and they will come to fruition, while keeping the most important things in life close to me and in the forefront of my mind.

MTV Drinking Game

So, a couple of weekends ago I came into the living room to see that MTV was on. I asked my brother what he was doing watching “Sweet 16″ and he said, “It is such a horrible show that you have to watch it to see how pretentious and bitchy these 16 year old girls are, it is ridiculous.” After watching for a bit and making fun of these girls as much as we possibly could we came up with a drinking game.
The rules are simple. You watch two to three hours of MTV and make sure that you have plenty of beer. This is when the fun takes place:

1) Every time someone says, “amazing”, you must take a drink.

2) Every time someone says, “cute”, you must take a drink.

3) Every time someone says, “like”, you must take a drink.

4) Every time someone says, “totally”, you must take a drink.

5) Every time someone says, “OMG” or “Oh My God”, you must take a drink.

6) Every time a girl acts like a pretentious bitch, you must take a drink.

7) Every time a girl cries because things didn’t go her way, you must take a drink.

Every time a girl yells at one of her parents, you must drink.

9) Every time you see a commercial for ring tones, you must drink.

Before you know it you will be well on your way to a great game. I hope that this gives you all some entertainment. Please make sure and leave a comment if and when you play.

Wired for Success

In light of the festivities America and the rest of the world will bask in today, as it is Super Bowl Sunday, I began to think about ways that teams could dominate in this oh so prestigeous competition. When thinking about different strategies, I thought of one novel idea that was so great but so devious.

This is how I would see it played out. You go into the half losing and once inside the locker room, the team would switch out all offensive helmets to have the coaching speakers but the QB would be the only one with the green dot. When the second half begins, there would’ve been some major adjustments. No huddle offense, snap counts are silent, and every one is playing like a team. It would turn into complete and utter domination.

Frankly, I am not sure if this would ever fly in the NFL or if a team would even do such a thing. If I had to guess though, I would have to say that the New England Patriots either have tried this or will next season after they read this post.

Now You Know You Got Style

Sometimes you are just drawn to something and don’t know why. Yesterday, I went into a surf shop and bought a new zip hoody. When I got home I was talking to my best friend of the female persuasion Caroline Lovern, who asked to be mentioned, and she asked me to see a pic of my new purchase. While on the phone with her I scoured the Internet to find a picture of the hoody. When I finally did I sent her this link. My first instinct was damn, I didn’t pay that for the hoody but then I didn’t even realize until we started looking at it that Billabong has the best copywriters.

This is what was said about my hoody, “Zip up the Billabong Men’s Serpents Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt before your flight to the City of Angels. This fleece hoody keeps you warm when the fat guy next to you puts the AC on full blast. You spy a bald badass in first class and check your ticket stub. Holy Sh!t! You’re on South Pacific Air Flight 121, and that’s no ordinary badass. That’s Sam Motherf@#$in Jackson. Hot and horny stewardesses might think the Billabong Serpents hoody looks dope, but it ain’t gonna save your ass from snakes on a plane, biatch.
Bottom Line: Billabong helps men and their Serpents join the mile high club.”

I guess it says a lot about my style. Yeahyer!!!! Now all I have to do is book that flight.

They’re Back!

After a five year hiatus, Phish will begin touring again. They will begin with a three night run in Hampton, VA March 6-8 and then a small summer tour through the month of June. They announced the first run in October. The summer tour was announced this month with a splash page on phish.com with an awesome video that was one of the most creative ways to announce a tour in my opinion. I have neglected to write about it because there is a lottery for tickets and let’s face it, the less people that know about it the better my chances are of getting to the show I am trying to get to with one of my friends (Camden, NJ).

Phish has been one of the most successful non-mainstream bands who toured for 21 years before going on their hiatus to pursue individual projects. Hopefully they will continue to plan these mini tours and keep their fans happy.

If you are unfamiliar with their music click here to hear live streaming music from their shows over the years. If you do indeed like them you can download a show or two. I have to say that my favorite show was 6.25.04 in Alpine Valley. Epic sets and great energy in the crowd.
